As part of its ongoing mandate to Give Opportunities to Young Artists, GOYA Theatre Productions is sponsoring the GOYA Bravo Award for musical theatre at the annual Kiwanis Music Festival.
One of this year’s winners was Ariana Noel of Kanata.
Ariana is in grade 10 at the Earl of March Secondary School where she also plays tenor saxophone with the concert band. In addition, she plays piano, won Grade 8 Voice at the Ontario Music Festival Association, and was a member of the Shooting Star Operatic Showcase production of “Gianni Schicci” earlier this year. She has been taking voice lessons for five years and piano for two years.
GOYA Theatre Productions has dedicated itself to a) bringing original Canadian plays and musicals to the theatre stage in Ottawa and b) providing acting and production opportunities to young people.
GOYA’s upcoming production is J.J. McColl’s Menopositive! The Musical by CBC veteran J.J. McColl, playwright, lyricist & composer and Rueben Gurr, co-composer. It will take place at Centrepointe Theatre from October 15 – 23. This is the story of four middle-aged women who come together for a 35th high school reunion and stage a musical about “the change”. Four women - Cynthia the demure housewife, Kate the struggling single mom, Marnie the unflappable career woman, and Zsu Zsu the sharp tongued cleaning woman belt out ribald and sometimes raunchy tunes as they bond over hot flashes, weight gain and cheating husbands. This musical has played to sold-out audiences across Canada and comes to Ottawa for an exclusive engagement.
